The unfortunate truth is that dental emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. Whether you’re on a vacation or just relaxing at home, you may find yourself with a chipped tooth, toothache, or any other urgent situation. While they can leave you shocked, being prepared for them can help you feel confident taking charge. A great way you can do this is with a dental kit. Here are some items you should make sure you have in yours.

Gauze Pads or Cotton Balls

If you are bleeding, then these items can be especially helpful in getting it under control. Simply bite down on them to apply gentle pressure. You can also use these to protect an injury in your mouth.

Dental Wax

Braces or chipped teeth can often have a sharp edge, so keeping this wax handy can give you a barrier. Roll a small amount into a ball with your fingers and push it into place; that way, you don’t risk cutting your lips, cheeks, or tongue.

Small Container with Lid

Getting a tooth knocked out is something you may not expect, but it’s estimated to happen about five million times a year. It’s important you keep the structure safe, so you can put it inside this container while you head to your dentist.

Pain Relievers

Over-the-counter medications can be great to have, as you may be in discomfort while you are experiencing a dental emergency. You’ll be able to get some relief from any pain, but make sure you follow the directions on the bottle.

Dental Floss

As you may already know, floss is a great way to remove debris from between your teeth. Having this handy can knock out any food particles that may be causing swelling and irritation, so toss some of this in your kit. You can also use floss picks if you prefer.

Emergency Dentist Card

Last but not least, don’t forget to have a card with your dentist’s number, address, and hours on it. Although you may have all this info on your phone, having it printed can allow you or others to quickly reference it; that way, there’s no hassle searching for this information.

In the end, while you can’t fully prevent dental emergencies, you can still prepare for them. By having these items in a trusty kit, you can deal with these situations with ease while you head to your dentist.
