Gum Disease Treatment West Bridgewater
Protecting Your Smile from Tooth Loss

Did you know that gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss in the United States? Our team’s goal is to prevent gum disease whenever possible; however, when you’re diagnosed with gum disease, we also offer multiple interventions to keep it from progressing. We want to keep your smile as healthy as possible, and one of the ways we’re able to do this is by screening you for gum disease at each of your checkups. If we spot the signs of it, we can jump into action with scaling and root planing or antibiotic therapy. For questions or to schedule a consultation, give our team a call today!

Symptoms of Gum Disease

Our team will keep a lookout for the following common signs of gum disease in West Bridgewater at each of your regular checkups:
- Bleeding gums when brushing or flossing
- Dental sensitivity
- Gum recession
- Chronic bad breath
- An unpleasant taste in the mouth
- Loose teeth
- A change in bite
If we spot any of these during your visit, our team will put together a gum disease treatment plan for you and help you refine your at-home oral hygiene routine to keep the infection from progressing.
Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing, more commonly known as a deep cleaning, are often the first intervention that our team takes against gum disease. One of our dental hygienists will clear away all plaque and tartar from the surface of the gumline as far down as the pockets of the gums. This will help minimize bacteria presence and prevent infection from spreading. Then, we will smooth out the roots of the teeth by removing any hardened deposits of bacteria. This will help prevent tooth loss by allowing the gums to healthily reattach to the surface of the teeth again.
Antibiotic Therapy

In combination with a deep cleaning, our team may also recommend antibiotic therapy. We use Arestin, which are small microspheres that we pack into the pockets of the gums and gradually release medication over the course of two weeks. This allows the medication to continuously fight the infection without you having to worry about keeping to a pill schedule! After two weeks, you’ll return to our office so we can check on the progress.
